Once I went to Peru with my lovely friend, Alissa. We hiked down a mountain. I will never forget that hike, because my knee will never let me forget that hike. I always forget about it until I go running, then it all comes back to me. Don't get me wrong, the hike was totally worth it, and I like having reminders like that.
So I have a confession. I pretty much have had no physical activity since I ran my half-marathon in October. But I brought my running shoes and reckoned to use them. We called up the rickshaw driver last night, I practiced my Islamic greetings and thank yous, and I set my alarm for 6:00. This is my first trip out alone in India, so it was kind of a big deal! The driver came right on time and drove me down to Central Park. It's 4K around, and I didn't get lost! He waited for me while I ran and then drove me back to the flat. It was great! I certainly wouldn't be running outside in Denver right now (unless is warmed up 40 or 50 degrees since I left!). Fun stuff. Have to do it again tomorrow, since my driver wouldn't accept payment today. It's a way of keeping business. So I will be staying in shape and helping the economy, thanks to him!
We're going to be traveling to Varanasi on Sunday. We'll be there for a few days. I'm really excited. We're going by train and coming back by plane, so it's going to be my first India train ride. I've heard a bit of these train rides before, so I hope I fare well! I know it's breaking my readers' hearts that I lost my camera, but that just means you'll have to come to see it yourself! Then, after we come home from Varanasi, we'll celebrate Christmas with mint oreos and Instant Via! (And some other goodies, of course.)
Everytime I see a camel I get a happy bubble.
Hoping we'll get invited over to someone's house again soon. I'm in the mood for chai!
